The town of Nitrianske Pravno was founded by miners and craftsmen. In the center of the town, a square of unprecedented proportions was developed during the Middle Ages. The town square is to this date lined with typical stone houses with gable roofs. The open space of the square serves the inhabitants and visitors for communication, commercial and recreational activities, but also for social and cultural events, including annual markets. Originally a pub was located in the middle of the square. This structure was rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century by Gedeon Junke as a luxury hotel. It is currently serving as the Municipal Office. The result of the redevelopment is a building created in an Art Deco architectural style, which creates the aesthetic and massive dominance of the Nitrianske Pravno. Under our proposal the goal was to create: – „Square in the Square“ using the mass of the new building along with the Municipal Office – ground floor of a new building, which allows inter-interior flexibility as well as interactivity between the interior and the exterior at the ground level. – a new building to be aesthically harmonious with the original buildings around the perimeter of the square, as well as the Municipal Office. – a new structure to be of modern purist expression, based on the classic architectural components. All while utilizing the robust walls and columns along with the architectural features of the inverted saddle roof of the main hall.
